ourFUND - fundraising made easy...
 |
As a child growing up in Montreal,
Canada, I enjoyed hockey and football throughout my formative years.
At the age of 15, I decided to make hockey my predominant sport.
I played Junior A hockey for the Montreal Junior Canadians - the
top amateur team in Canada. In 1971, I was drafted in the 3rd round
by the California Golden Seals Hockey Team in the National Hockey
League. The next 4 years were spent in the minor leagues and then
8 years in the National Hockey League with various teams. A dream
realized.
All through the early years, my parents had to reach out
to sponsors (friends and family) to help pay for my development
in hockey in order to achieve my goals.
My wife Linda and I started a family in 1974 and have 3 wonderful
children, Shane, Mechelle and Joey - all of whom were very good
students and terrific athletes. As the years progressed, academic
success combined with athletic participation became an important
part of our everyday lives. Unfortunately, the cost associated with
team sports and classroom success continued to rise at an alarming
rate. Academic and sports related fundraisers became a way of life
for us and the many wonderful and supportive parents. Washing cars,
coupon books, cookies, candy & doughnut sales turned our children
into part-time salesmen! Today, there are many options available
for raising funds; all with the same theme
Sell! Sell! Sell!
... I encourage you and your group to explore all avenues available
for raising funds. However, with the help of donations and contributions
from caring friends and family members, our lives were made much
easier and much less stressful. Friends, business acquaintances,
and family members such as my father-in-law Boom Boom Geoffrion
(a member of the NHL Hall of Fame) had a lasting impact on the success
that we enjoyed. He was able to get major businesses to support
our children's' athletic activities. Our success in/out of the classroom
was a direct reflection of the support we received from close friends
and family.
My sons both played baseball for the East Marietta Little League,
as well as the East Cobb Baseball Association in Atlanta GA.
These leagues were highly competitive and very well
funded
again through the hard work and dedication of parents
and coaches. Both were All Stars in these leagues as well as in
high school. Their success followed them to college and into the
"big leagues" where both were drafted into Major League
Baseball. Shane played for the Seattle Mariners and Joey in the
Chicago Cubs organization.
I know first hand the time commitment and sacrifice, not to mention
the expense involved in trying to provide the support your children
need at all the different levels of academics and competition. I
firmly believe that our concept is hands down, the most innovative
and effective fundraiser in the nation. As a Director at ourFUND,
I strongly encourage you to stay involved with your children and
support these athletes and students not only financially, but with
your personal time and encouragement. I would like them to not only
be the best they can be in their sports, but also to learn the importance
of teamwork, sacrifice, and winning and losing respectfully. I want
to personally thank you for the opportunity to assist your organization
with their financial goals.
